I am a 28 year old writer. Neat, right? I've had a few essays published, but they were throw-away writing. The material that I am most proud of, my novel, is still in progress. I'm hoping to get some academic writing published in addition to whatever other "stuff" I can finish.
Dig in. Sorry for boring you in advance. And I will bore you.
Filled with a somewhat refreshing sense of newness and freedom, I've set out to define my values more clearly and use them to frame the world around me. Politically, I'm fairly even-handed. I am abjectly opposed to political parties. I generally support a small government view, fiscal conservatism, and personal liberties. I take idealistic (read as: unrealistic) stances on a variety of issues. I am also generally disgusted with the apathy and short-sightedness of... well, everyone. Myself included.
In this blog I hope to address my political and social ideology, in order to ruin any chances I ever could have had of holding public office. I will also record the progress of my novel, and the elements it deals with.
While deployed to Iraq I recorded my impressions of the controversial conflict in a series of fictional vignettes centering on a schizophrenic enlisted soldier named Adam Blue. Together with his imaginary friends and real-life co-workers, Adam Blue searches for beauty in a devastated city, confronts the evils of war, and smokes a fucking ton of cigarettes.
I am currently editing the first draft of the book that I wrote between March of 2006 and November of 2006. It's a long hard slog, but I feel like I'm ready to tackle the project with the same dedication and mentality that I started it with in Baghdad.
